Ethiopia threatens major
offensive against Somali Islamists |

ABC News reported that Ethiopia has confirmed that it is prepared to
launch a major military offensive against Islamists in neighbouring
Somalia.
Ethiopia has sent troops into Somalia in the past to fight Islamist
radicals, prompting the Islamists to declare jihad against their
neighbours.
But now Ethiopia has indicated that it is prepared to escalate its
military involvement in Somalia, fearing that the Islamists could
provoke trouble on its side of the border.
The European Union and the United States have urged restraint on
both sides.
Observers are worried that the heightened tension could lead to the
outbreak of a regional war in the Horn of Africa.
